Sprout Change Review

I recently received the Sprout Change One-Size Diaper by The Willow Store to test on my 15-month-old. She is a very petite girl at only 21 pounds at her last check-up, so getting a good fit with any diaper is very difficult. Most times I will get a great fit around the waist and end up with red marks around her thighs because the legs are too tight. If I am lucky enough to get a good fit around the legs without red marks, I often have a gap at the belly or back where she leaks. So, I was very interested in trying out the Sprout Change with it's elastic adjustments at both the waist and thighs! I admit, when I first received the diaper, I wasn't thrilled to have a side-snapping diaper. However, I realized very quickly that the Sprout Change is REVERSIBLE! That's right! You can use either side as your "outer" and therefore, you have the option of a side-snapping or a front-snapping diaper.

My next test was to see how easy the adjustments were. There are small side pockets where the elastic tucks in and is "hidden". These are closed with a snap, making sure you don't end up with frayed elastic from catching it on hook-and-loop closures while adjusting.(I apologize for the blurry photo, but it was the best I could get.) It was super easy to just pull the elastic out and pop it off the button, move it to the recommended hole (the packaging comes with a suggestion chart right on it to help you out), and snap it back in. I prepped the cover and the organic hemp/cotton insert and couldn't wait to try it on my daughter. I did get red marks after the initial fitting, but I readjusted the elastic on the legs and found the perfect fit for her.  The organic insert worked wonderfully and is very soft! It gets softer each wash as well! I re-used the cover with another insert and it worked just as well with my random insert as it did with the SC insert. The SC insert did, however, fit a little more snugly inside the cover.

Of course, what good is a diaper that cannot hold in poop? I was nervous about what would happen with the first bowel movement. After my second washing, my dear daughter afforded me the perfect opportunity to test the holding power of Sprout Change! You see, she is teething. Cutting molars to be precise. Any parent can tell you that teething poop is probably the worst type of poop you will encounter - aside from a baby sick with diarrhea. That being said, my daughter had a large bowel movement of teething poop just after waking from her 2-hour nap. I mention the nap only to mention that the insert was already wet before she had her BM. So, what happened? Absolutely nothing! When I opened the diaper, there was poo from one leg elastic to the other, and even up to the top elastic in the back, but I didn't have a single leak! She woke up dry and poo free! The cover was not so lucky. I thought I was going to have this beautiful, new diaper stained for life. I took it to the toilet and began to spray it off, hoping that the poop would at least come clean enough I wouldn't have to worry about a bad stain. Imagine my surprise when EVERY SPECK came off! Even in the creases next to the elastic and the bunched fabric that covers the elastic came completely clean with just my diaper sprayer! I was ecstatic! And when I took it out of the wash, perfect, just like new!

I am very pleased I was able to test and review this diaper and would definitely recommend it to anyone with a hard-to-fit baby. With 2 layers of hidden PUL, a reversible/reusable shell, and the wonderful absorbency of the organic insert, I am very pleased with this diaper. In fact, it is now one of my favorites and I plan on buying another!

If you have any questions that I haven't answered about this diaper, please feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you.
